Facebook Reviews RIP?
Some have already noticed that Facebook is actively phasing out its Reviews system in favor of a new Recommendations system. This update appears to be a staged roll-out from Facebook much like an algorithm change is rolled out by Google.
Facebook updated businesses with a few slides, selling their new recommendation system:
1. Ratings are now recommendations:
We’ve retired the star rating system. Now when your customers want to write a review, they can choose to recommend or not recommend your Page
2. Recommendations are powerful endorsements:
When customers publicly recommend you in a Group or to their friends, it will appear on your Page for all to see
3. Easily report unfair recommendations:
Select “Give feedback” in the post menu to report content that you believe is unfair or spam
4. Learn from your customers:
We’ve made it simple for customers to share important details through tags and photos.
Recommendations Not Showing to non-logged in Users on Public Business Pages
So far, not all users are seeing the new Recommendation system. Public FB business pages are not yet displaying recommendations to users who are not logged in, but still showing the reviews content.
As of now, FB is not using it’s API to show Recommendations. Mighty Fish Reviews will continue to monitor Facebook reviews, but recommendations are currently not picked up in the dashboard. However, we have updated the monitoring tool so that if recommendations become public (to users not logged in), a recommend will show as a 5 star rating, and a non-recommend will show as a 1 star rating, along with any text.
As time goes on and the roll out matures, our dashboard will be updated to appropriately accommodate for Recommendations across the Mighty Fish Reviews system.
